Crank Arm Optimisation
The purpose of this project was to design an optimised crank arm for a mountain bike within torsional and bending stress constraints. Analytical calculations derived a set of successive topology optimisations from which a parametric model was generated.

Outcome & Impact
The optimised crank arm saved 56% of the original model weight and performed to the constraints with a Factor of Safety of 1.35. The project gave experience in enhancing an existing part through modern software whilst still considering traditional manufacturing techniques and budget.
